BrainChip4MED is a 2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) – Global Fellowship, that addresses the technological challenge to create an advanced microfluidic platform comprising blood-brain barrier and brain models to screen novel nanoformulations for neurological diseases, such Alzheimer's disease. This 2-year project started on March 2022.
This MSCA project has as EU beneficiary the INL - International Iberian Nanotechnology laboratory (Portugal) with a secondment phase at HMS/BWH - Harvard Medical School/Brigham and Women’s Hospital (Boston, MA, USA).
The key research objectives (RO) of this project are:
RO1: Biofabrication of BoC comprising brain and BBB model integrated with a multiplexed biosensor system,
RO2: Development of added-value lipidic based (magnetic) nanoparticles (LbNPs) for AD’s theranostic,
RO3: Screening of the developed BBB-targeting drug LbNPs using BoC as a preclinical tool for the AD’s theranostic.
